Xpeng made history last year by being the first Chinese auto company to introduce advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) functions for complex urban driving through its City Navigation Guided Pilot (City NGP) program. With City NGP, the vehicle gains the ability to autonomously handle various driving tasks such as changing lanes, responding to traffic lights, and navigating challenging road conditions. The ADAS platform incorporates a 360-degree sensor fusion framework and an innovative Surrounding Reality (SR) display. Initially, City NGP was available on the XPeng P5 as part of XPILOT 3.5, requiring a seven-day familiarization period and 100 km of driving before full functionality on all roads. Excitingly, Xpeng has plans to expand the ADAS system to its new flagship G9 SUV, set to launch on September 21 in China. This vehicle is expected to have an SAE level of L2+, equipped with Lidar from Livox and Robosense, and a powerful computing system provided by Nvidia.

The XPeng P7 is equipped with the XPILOT 3.0, an advanced autonomous driving assistance system. One of its key components is the XPeng Navigation Guided Pilot (XNGP). This system utilizes a comprehensive set of 31 sensors, including 12 ultrasonic sensors, 10 high-sensitivity cameras, 5 millimeter-wave radars, and 4 surround-view cameras. With these sensors, the XPeng P7 achieves a 360-degree perception of its surroundings, ensuring a detailed awareness of its environment. Additionally, the vehicle’s central high-performance computer, Nvidia Drive AGX Xavier, processes the gathered data to enable various Xmart OS functions, such as automated driving and valet parking.

The XPeng G9 comes with SAE Level L2+ autonomy, specifically designed for certain cities and highways. It is powered by dual Nvidia Drive Orin chips, which control various aspects of the G9 such as the digital instrument cluster and the ADAS system. With 31 strategically placed sensors, the G9’s in-house R&D team has developed both hardware and software to enhance its sensing capabilities. The City NCA, also known as the ALPHA S HI ADAS system, operates at SAE Level L2+. It covers selected cities and highways as its operational design domain (ODD). Huawei is responsible for both the lidar and computing components of this advanced driver assistance system. The new HI version of ARCFOX Alpha S is equipped with 34 high-sensing hardware, creating a 360-degree full-coverage ultra-high fusion sensing system. This system accurately identifies obstacles and faithfully reproduces the 3D physical world. To handle complex road conditions, the MDC810 intelligent driving computing platform provides 400 TOPS supercomputing power.



The MACH-E’s ADAS system, known as Blue Cruiser, provides hands-free highway driving at SAE Level L2. It is specifically designed for selected highways and aims to reduce stress, improve the driving experience, and promote driver connectivity with nature. Powered by Mobileye computing, BlueCruise includes a driver-facing camera that alerts the driver if their attention to the road momentarily wavers. Additionally, BlueCruise offers adaptive cruise control, maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle ahead for added safety. GM has introduced Ultra Cruise, an advanced driver assistance program that allows for hands-free driving most of the time. With more than 20 sensors, Ultra Cruise includes a driver attention system to ensure the driver remains alert. By using a combination of cameras, radars, LiDAR, a new computing system, and a driver attention system, Ultra Cruise monitors the driver’s focus on the road. Ultra Cruise is planned to be at SAE level L2/L3, with selected highways as its operational design domain (ODD).
