Maruti Suzuki India, the country’s largest car manufacturer, has announced once again a major investment in Gujarat. During the ongoing 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit (VGGS) in Gandhinagar, Maruti Suzuki India has declared that they will invest ₹35,000 crore to set up their second plant in Gujarat. The company aims to increase its annual production capacity to over 4 million units by 2030-31.

In the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit (VGGIS), the Chairman of Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC), Toshihiro Suzuki, announced two major investments in the state today. Speaking during the event, he said that the production capacity of the plant will be 1 million units per year. We will invest 35,000 crores in Gujarat for the construction of another car plant, which will produce 1 million units per year.

The management expects the operation of the new plant to commence in the financial year 2028-29. However, the company has not shared any information regarding the location of the plant or which models will be produced here. The company states that the details will be disclosed in due time. With the commencement of this new plant, the annual production capacity in Gujarat will be 2 million (20 lakh) units.

Toshihiro Suzuki said, “Under the strong leadership and continuous support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the manufacturing industry is expanding and the Indian automobile market is continuously growing. As a result, India has become the third largest automobile market in the world.” Suzuki also mentioned, “We have also seen significant growth in vehicle production in India. Compared to 10 years ago, we expect to see a 1.7 times increase in vehicle production and a 2.6 times increase in export sales in the current fiscal year.”

First electric car will be made in Gujarat

Maruti Suzuki India has announced that the first battery electric vehicle (BEV) from the Suzuki Group will be launched by the end of this year. We will not only introduce this electric car in India but also export it to other countries. Additionally, Maruti Suzuki India stated that in order to increase the production of electric cars in the future, Suzuki Motor Gujarat will invest 3,200 crore rupees to add a new fourth production line, which will produce 2.5 lakh units per year. This will increase Suzuki Motor Gujarat’s annual production capacity from the current 7.5 lakh units to 10 lakh units.

Maruti Suzuki India showcased its first electric car, the Maruti Suzuki eVX, during last year’s Auto Expo. At that time, the company unveiled its concept model. Now, the company is making significant preparations for the production of this electric car. It is likely that this car will offer a range of 550 kilometers on a single charge.

It is being said that the fourth production line could be started in the financial year 2026-27. Maruti Suzuki India has stated that as far as reducing greenhouse gas emissions is concerned, the group will focus on a multi-pathway approach. This means that Maruti Suzuki India will not only focus on cars running on traditional petrol engines in the future, but also on other alternative energy sources such as CNG, biogas, bioethanol, electric, and hydrogen-powered cars.
